Dino Run — Escape Extinction, One Jump at a Time

Endless Runner

Dino Run: the runner where slowing down is the enemy

Dino Run came out of Pixeljam in 2008 and it still has something the endless runners that followed it never quite copied: a reason to look behind you. A wall of doom advances from the left at a steady pace, and everything in front — ravines, boulders, a triceratops in the way, a meteor landing on the path — costs you a step or two of ground. Lose enough and the wall catches up. The pixel art is deliberate and lovely, the music is a proper chiptune soundtrack, and the whole thing is over in a few minutes or lasts as long as your reflexes.

The build on this page is the HTML5 version, hosted on dinorun.one, so it starts when you press Play and does not depend on an outside frame. Your dino, hats, colours and awards are saved in this browser. Nothing installs and no account is needed.

Controls & Mechanics

ActionControlPurpose
RunRight arrow or DHold it; the wall of doom does not wait
Jump / high jumpUp arrow or W (tap twice off a big dino)Ravines, boulders, meteor craters
DuckDown arrow or SLow branches and diving pterodactyls

Outrunning the wall

  1. Eat everything small: Critters give a speed boost; eating three in a row gives a longer one. Momentum is the only real defence.
  2. Ride the big dinosaurs: Jump onto a large dinosaur’s back and off again for height and distance you cannot get from the ground.
  3. Ignore eggs in the danger zone: An egg is a bonus, not a life. If the wall is close, run past it and come back for eggs on an easier run.

Key Features

  • Four difficulty levels: From an easy stroll to a run where the wall of doom is on your tail from the start.
  • Eggs, hats and awards: Collect eggs to unlock colours and hats; a full awards board tracks the ways you have died.
  • Hosted here: Served from dinorun.one; no third-party frame, no ad gate before the run.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Dino Run?

A side-scrolling runner by Pixeljam. You play a small dinosaur running from a wall of doom while meteors fall and other dinosaurs block the way. Eggs, critters and hats are collected along the run.

Is Dino Run free here?

Yes. The HTML5 build is hosted on dinorun.one and plays in your browser at no cost, with no download or account.

What are the controls?

Right arrow or D to run, Up or W to jump, Down or S to duck. Tap Up twice while on a large dinosaur to jump higher.

Is my progress saved?

Yes — unlocked colours, hats and awards are stored in this browser on this device. Clearing site data resets them.

Does it work on a Chromebook or a phone?

It runs well on a Chromebook or laptop with a keyboard. On a phone the game is playable but a keyboard is much easier.
